Why watch this film?
A Queen sends the powerful and feared sorceress Gray Alys to the ghostly wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power, where the sorceress and her guide, the drifter Boyce, must outwit and outfight man and demon.
"In the Lost Lands is a film that causes sincere discomfort -- everything seems exaggerated, out of tune, artificial. This starts with the story, inspired by a short story by George R. R. Martin (from Game of Thrones), about a witch (Milla Jovovich) who, after escaping the gallows, has to flee from the police. At her side, a mercenary henchman (Dave Bautista) who helps her explore the Lost Lands in search of a werewolf. Chaotic, right? It seems more complicated than it is, since director Paul W. S. Anderson (from the Resident Evil franchise) brings, here, his most experimental film. The story takes a backseat to an interesting visual exercise, in which the aesthetic boundaries between cinema and video games are broken down. Anderson, a filmmaker who is quite misunderstood, plays with the senses and creates interesting collages on a green screen that, once again, questions the limits of cinema. The visual creations of the characters, meanwhile, are closer to the Sin City comics, in a quick parallel that can also be drawn with the films of Robert Rodriguez. The best of all is that while Paul W. S. Anderson has fun on screen, modulating the settings, colors and effects to create this dreamlike sensation, the person in the seat, if they let themselves go, will have a real good time, in one of the true surprises of cinemas in 2025."
