Why watch this film?
After escaping a calamitous train crash, Ethan realizes The Entity is stashed aboard an old Russian submarine, but a foe from his past named Gabriel is also on the trail.
"Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is the eighth installment in the Dead Reckoning: the villain Gabriel (Esai Morales) attempts to seize control of an AI known as the Entity, which is taking over the world’s nuclear arsenals one by one. Hunt and his team hold the key to the Entity’s source code, hidden in the vault of a sunken submarine at an unknown location. They must find it in a race against time that could lead to nuclear apocalypse. Nearly three hours long, this might be the most excessive Mission: Impossible film yet, overloaded with subplots, underdeveloped characters, and an absurd amount of expository dialogue to explain everything that happens. However, as with every sequel, Dead Reckoning raises the bar in extremely risky action sequences, featuring two spectacular scenes that should be seen in theaters. Perhaps the only issue is that these sequences arrive too late in the runtime. The film doesn’t provide a definitive end to Ethan Hunt’s story, and it’s hard to believe Tom Cruise would retire from his flagship saga with anything less than a perfect movie. Don’t be surprised if another Mission: Impossible installment is already on the horizon."
