Dark Waters

"After a phase of experimentalism, with films like 'Breathless' and 'I'm Not There', filmmaker Todd Haynes dives back into raw and painful reality with 'Dark Waters'. Here, he tells the story of a chemical company that contaminated a small town - and subsequently, the entire planet - without ever itting its mistakes. With a powerful performance by Mark Ruffalo (the Hulk from 'Avengers: Endgame'), the film brings an intense pessimism about the reality of large corporations and their impact on society, often with government and legal backing. Even though there are no energetic moments in the plot, it is hard not to be impacted and a bit shocked by everything that is shown there. It is Haynes' best film since 'Carol' and 'Far From Heaven', throwing the viewer into a hurricane of events that poke at the capitalist system we all live in."
