Why watch this film?
Anxious about his future after high school, a 19-year-old Italian-American from Brooklyn tries to escape the harsh reality of his bleak family life by dominating the dance floor at the local disco.
"This is the movie that, during the seventies, made John Travolta synonymous with disco music and a legend of cinema at the time, the reason why we all imagine him when the iconic 'Stayin' Alive' theme from the Bee Gees plays (who also got a second wind after composing the music for the film). Although not very well received at the time, 'Saturday Night Fever' can now be considered an authentic time capsule of youth life at the time, full of frustrations, outrageous outfits, disco music and sexual freedom."
