Why watch this film?
On Coney Island in the 1950s, a lifeguard tells the story of a middle-aged carousel operator, his beleaguered wife, and the visitor who turns their lives upside-down.
"The merits of 'Wonder Wheel' lie in its beautiful period reconstruction, in a drama that tries to escape from humor to tell a different story of love and ion, full of melancholy and modesty. This tempered with a beautiful performance by Kate Winslet ('The Reader', 'Titanic'). Still, the Woody Allen here is far from the Allen of 'Annie Hall', for example, with the director more struggling to keep everything together than being the leader of harmony - which is a pity, although still an attraction. In addition to Kate, the cast includes names like Justin Timberlake ('The Social Network'), Jim Belushi ('K-9: A Cop for a Dog') and Juno Temple ('Atonement')."
