Psychological thrillers to doubt reality

A dense and highly interesting production about the human mind. 'Surge' follows the life of Joseph (Ben Whishaw), a man who works in an airport security team. Gradually, we follow his transformation that fits with the direction the plot takes. Director Aneil Karda manages to convey that the protagonist is clearly unbalanced through the filming that can cause some discomfort and works as one of the characters of the story. In fact, Ben Whishaw's performance is one of the highlights of the movie.

Rose Glass's debut is simply a sophisticated yet chilling mix of psychological thriller and body horror, through a tale about loneliness, femininity, trauma, obsession, and the thin line between absolute devotion and mental illness. 'Saint Maud', which made its debut at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, is an incredible journey that seems like a mix between 'First Reformed' and supernatural horror classics like 'The Exorcist', with excellent acting from lead Morfydd Clark ('The Personal Life of David Copperfield'), conveying a perverse energy in her role as a woman whose body becomes the battleground for her own faith and darkness.

An intense movie, about a girl pressured by her mother, by her own expectations and by the director, leading her to insanity. Natalie Portman is in an impeccable performance, enhanced by a powerful atmosphere created by Darren Aronofsky's direction. It was indeed deserved the Oscar and the Golden Globe for Best Actress that Natalie received.

Before the The Dark Knight trilogy, The Prestige, and Oppenheimer, English director Christopher Nolan shook up cinema with this ingenious puzzle. Guy Pearce plays a man suffering from recent memory loss and yet still trying to uncover his wife's murderer.
